“Teaching impulse control” is often seen as the solution to many behavioral problems in dogs, such as chasing cats. And there are a few exercises and games that seem to be everywhere, aimed at teaching the dog to control themselves. But these popular exercises can lead to frustration and confusion for the learner, and accidentally reinforcing impulsive behaviors!
